Closure of Hammersmith Bridge, 14th August 2020 onwards

Following further consultation between the PLA and the Council engineers Hammersmith Bridge is closed to all river traffic. We are restricted to rowing below Hammersmith Bridge. Please turn at the end of the Harrods wall and under no circumstances be swept under Hammersmith while turning on a flood tide.

Experts and Advanced may row below Putney Bridge as per PLA guidance. As per the code “due to commercial barge traffic movements at various freight facilities, rowers must not proceed below Fulham Railway bridge for 3hrs before and 2hrs after high tide. Rowing boats should not proceed below Wandsworth Bridge, regardless of tide, unless the outing plan has been pre-approved by the Club Rowing Safety Advisor.”

In addition nobody should proceed below Putney Pier between 07:00 and 10:15 in the morning and 17:30 and 21:00 in the evening during the working week. This is due to the large draw off and wash of the Clippers, even when they have eased down which is especially large at low tide.
